Indie Designer Spotlight - Simply Hue Designs

I recently came across a wonderful photographer on Etsy that has the most beautiful and whimsical photo's I've ever seen. The colors are amazing and the subjects she's photographed bring such a dreamy energy. And they are such simple photo's, yet she seems to bring out the beauty in that situation. What talent!

We've just been talking about redecorating the house abit, and when the time comes, I'll definitely be coming back to get some of these pic's!

Here are a few of my favourites....

New pieces added this week

I've added a few new pieces this week. I was debating whether or not I should as all the sales are on, but hey, all the stuff on sale we've seen before anyway, sometimes it's nice to see something new. And the sale is still on until midnight Thursday the 31st of December, so if anything has taken your fancy, you can get 20% off using the code "xmassale" at the checkout. That includes these new babies!

The Little Owl Vintage Locket

Little Silver Bow Earrings

On The Streets.....

from All The Pretty Birds, Alta Mira, Elle, Face Hunter, Garance Dore, Jak & Jill, Mr Newton & Stockholm Street Style.

Cool Find....

How cool is this labyrinth aquarium??!!! We've got 2 empty fishtanks at home including one built into the wall with a frame around it to look like a picture frame, but even that doesn't compare to this!! I'm sure if I had this at home I'd be persuaded to look after the little fishies inside :)

Piece of the week

I thought I'd highlight a piece each week, most of the time it'll be something new, but for now, since I've just wrapped up a range and about to start a new range, I thought I'd highlight some of my favourite pieces.

This week, it's the "I heard it through the grapevine earrings". These earrings are brass and are handcut into a beautiful organic vine shape. They are so easy to wear, I have a pair myself and they dress up a casual outfit so well. And they are a great alternative to hoops.

Available now at Marika King Designer Jewellery.

Cool Find....

It always seems when I go browsing around shops in the real world, there isn't alot that really catches my eye that I just have to have. But online, I could shop till I dropped!! So I thought I'd start sharing some of my cool finds.

One of my favourite things I've found recently that I can't stop thinking about are these gorgeous origami tea bags by Natalia Ponomareva. These cute birdie creations are so gorgeous! I think if I bought them (don't think they are available for sale yet), I'd be too scared to use them, they're so pretty!

Designer Spotlight: Eryn Brinie

Don't you just love it when you accidently stumble across something and you fall madly in love? Well, that's what happened to me the other day. I was reading one of my favourite blogs and a picture was posted of this fur vest that I HAD TO HAVE!! Now, I've never owned a fur vest, and I've never particularly been a vest person at all. So anyway, did some more research and found that the designer is Eryn Brinie, so I googled her and found her website and fell in love with her designs.

Her designs are described as European chic combined with New Yorks spirit and modern sensibility. I just think her designs are fresh, affordable and so easy to wear. I'll definitely be checking in regularly to see what else she has. In the meantime, I'll be waiting for the mailman to deliver my new vest.

Need a giggle??

OK, some days, stress levels are high and I need some time out and what's better then having a good ole' laugh? Well, I came across this guy on twitter and boy, is his tweets hilarious!!

The twitterer is Justin of "shit my dad says". And it's just that, shit his dad says. But boy, his dad needs his own sitcom! Justin is a 29 year old guy who lives with his 73 year old dad.

If you'ld like a taste of his tweets, here are some recent ones:

"Remember how you used to make fun of me for being bald?.....No, I'm not gonna make a joke. I'll let your mirror do that"

"I wanted to see Detroit win. I've been there. It looks like God took a shit on a parking lot. They deserve some good news."

"I turn the kitchen faucet on and the shower burns you, yes, I get it....No, I'm not going to stop, I'm just saying yes, I get that concept"

and finally...

"Why the fuck would you want to live to 100? I'm 73 and shit's starting to get boring. By the way, there's no money left when I go, just fyi"

How could you not find this guy hilarious? He's a legend!

My designs have been featured in a blog!!

Yay, a piece of my jewellery has been featured in a blog!!! The lovely Tiffany from is wearing a piece from a previous range and I love the way she's styled it! I usually have an idea of what I'd wear a piece with when I create it, as I like to create my designs with fashion in mind. So I like to see how others interpret the piece. I visualised this piece being worn on grey, so I loved how Tiffany wore it with the dark coral tee and tied it back with the black blazer. And I also initially designed the piece so that one side would have 2 of the black phoenix feathers and the other side would only have one, but in this case, all three of them are on the same side. Love it! And what a stylish outfit for a "lazy sunday"!

Definitely check out the I Am Style-ish blog. My favourite is her lookbooks, she's definitely a gal with effortless style. And her other sponsors are amazing as well!

Fab Find

I'm always hunting around online for inspirations and some retail therapy. I came across this cute waistcoat by Oscar The Third. I admit, a brand I've never heard of but if this waistcoat is anything to go by, I'll be looking more closely at them! This waistcoat is available from Australian Flavour .

Designer Homewear and Gifts

Late last year, I had a request from a newly created website called Joolia to stock my range. Joolia is a site that only has jewellery and accessories from independant designers. (You can check my section out at Anyway, at the time, the site wasn't quite operational, so they suggested I check out their sister site to see what it's about and if I was interested. The sister site is Well, I was blown away by some of (Ok, MOST of!) the pieces on there. It really is worth checking out if you love homeware and decorating.

One particular piece that really captured my attention was this piece by Duffy London. It's the Glo Chandelier and comes in 3 colors. Here is an example of one. I've never been into those light up pictures, but this one, well, I've changed my mind after seeing this.

Yes, I'm having the biggest sale ever on my etsy shop!! Why, you might ask? Well, bit of a long story, but here it is in a nutshell. When I first signed up to etsy, I didn't intend to sell on there, I just intended to buy so I just used the same id as I had for ebay (didn't need to confuse my little brain with yet another id!). Anyway, after some time I decided to give it a go and sell, and it's been quite successfull in the year I have been doing it. But I've been using a meaningless, hard to remember id!! Now that I want to take my business to the next leve, the decision was, do I stay with a meaningless, hard to remember id, or do I (sadly) lose all my hearts and ratings and bite the bullet to start a new shop with an id people will remember? So yes, that is what I'm doing. I'm slowly closing down and starting up, which fits in perfectly with my brand name Marika King Designer Jewellery.

So I'm trying to get rid of all my stock in my old shop so I don't have to re-input it into my new shop, I'd like to start afresh.

All sale stock is at cost!! All other stock is either at wholesale price or below, so either way, every item in the store is at a ridiculously low price. Some of these items retailed at more then $100 in boutiques!!

So feel free to take a peek adn see if there is anything that tickles your fancy. Here are a few things that are on offer:

And if you like what you see, why don't you visit the new store Lot's of exciting new pieces coming in the next few months as I'm busy creating my new range!!

Jeans? Leggings? Jeggings!!!

I think I like them. I think I'll like them even more when I'd be able to fit into them properly. I think they are pretty cool and would look great with a long tunic and boots as in the past, when I've tried that look (pre baby), my jeans are never cliny enough from the knee down. And I never dug those lycra leggings that are supposed to look like jeans. What do you all think?

To Follow or Not To Follow? That is the question.

Trends. Some people follow every single one out there and others ignore them totally.

Some of the more recent trends, I'm really not feeling. In the past, I figured because it was a trend and it was popular, it must be fashionable, and more often then not I didn't mind the trend and sometimes adapted it myself. But the trends around lately? I don't like them one bit! Take the harem pants for example, I soooooooooo can't see myself doing them. Or the boyfriend jean. They look identical to the 501's I rocked in the late 80's/early 90's (showing my age here). Also the military look. How many times has that trend come and gone. I figure if I really rocked it once, that boat has sailed for me and sadly, most of the current trends are all trends I've done. One I vowed not to follow is the big shoulderpad thing. However, I recently came across a picture of Michelle Moynahan with a big shoulder jacket that made me rethink my no go zone. What do you think?

There is still no way I will do this season's military look (that's for us southern hemisphere girls who are approaching winter). I have nightmares of a purple military inspired suit I wore to work TO DEATH. Never again.

By the way, my jeans still don't fit.

Is She Real?

I don't know. I don't get Amber Rose, Kanye's current main squeeze. She just doesn't seem real, how can she be? And I think this picture justifies my suspicions that she really is a store mannequin.

Loving this dress..........

I'm so loving this dress by Camila. Worn here by Jessica Gomes, I just love it..... Just gotta figure out a way how to afford it.
